Pupil Premium
At Otterburn Primary School and Nursery, we are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstances. Pupil Premium funding helps us provide additional support and opportunities for pupils who may face barriers to learning, enabling them to thrive both academically and personally.
What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the Government to schools in England to improve the educational outcomes of disadvantaged pupils. The funding is allocated to schools based on the number of eligible pupils on roll.
Pupils who may attract Pupil Premium funding include those who:
- Are currently eligible for Free School Meals (FSM).
- Have been eligible for Free School Meals at any point during the last six years.
- Are looked after by the local authority.
- Have previously been looked after by the local authority.
- Have a parent serving in the regular armed forces, or who has served in the armed forces within the last six years (Service Pupil Premium).
How do we use Pupil Premium funding?
We use Pupil Premium funding to provide targeted support that helps remove barriers to learning and promotes positive outcomes for our pupils. This may include:
- High-quality teaching and learning opportunities.
- Small-group and one-to-one interventions.
- Additional support for literacy and numeracy.
- Pastoral and emotional wellbeing support.
- Access to enrichment activities, educational visits and residential experiences.
- Resources and support to improve attendance and engagement.
- Specialist advice and support where required.
Our aim is to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their starting points, are able to achieve success, develop confidence and enjoy a rich and varied school experience.
Is your child eligible?
If you think your child may be eligible for Free School Meals or Pupil Premium funding, please contact the school office. We will be happy to provide further information and support you through the application process. Registering for Free School Meals can help the school secure additional funding, even if your child chooses not to take a school meal.
Pupil Premium Strategy Statement
Our current Pupil Premium Strategy Statement outlines how we intend to use our funding, the challenges faced by our disadvantaged pupils, the strategies we have chosen to address these challenges and the impact of previous spending.
The strategy is reviewed annually and published in accordance with Department for Education requirements.
We value the support of our families and wider community and are committed to ensuring that Pupil Premium funding is used effectively to improve outcomes and opportunities for all eligible pupils.
